ISTANBUL. – The Ukrainian Femen activists, who on Thursday disrobed and carried out a demonstration at Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia Square and were subsequently detained, have been deported from Turkey.
After being detained, the Ukrainian activists were taken to police precinct, then to the airport, and afterward they were deported from the country. At the airport however, the Femen members again attempted to demonstrate by taking off their clothes, but the police quickly prevented this, Hurriyet daily of Turkey informs.
The Femen members had come to Istanbul on the invitation of an undergarment company in Turkey. They had announced that their main objective is the protection of women’s rights, and that they will defend Turkish women with their breasts.
Also, Femen activist Alexandra Shevchenko had expressed a hope that Turkish women likewise would form Femen groups and carry out demonstrations.
