Baptism of Rus Day marked in post-Soviet area

Russian Orthodox believers are venerating the memory of Great Prince Vladimir Equal-to-the-Apostles. It was during his rule that Russia was baptized in 988.

Kyiv has become the focal point of celebration, with thousands of Christians attending the liturgical service that Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia conducted at the Kyiv Monastery of the Caves earlier today.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church pointed out that credit should be given to Great Prince Vladimir, who baptized Rus, precisely for the fact that he introduced Christian moral standards into Russian society.

This, the Patriarch said, drastically changed the life of the entire people who could, from then on, abide by God’s truths.
