FEMEN activist ‘dethrones’ Euro 2012 Cup

An activist of the Ukrainian movement FEMEN "dethroned" the Euro 2012 Cup.

Yulia Kovpachik approached the place where it was on display in Kyiv, bared her chest, which had an obscene inscription referring to Euro 2012, and pushed over the trophy. The Cup has been damaged, the activist has been arrested, report FEMEN officials. They argue that the action was held in protest against FIFA allegedly promoting sex tourism in Euro 2012 host cities.

According to tradition, on the eve of the championship, access to the trophy is open for the public. Presently, it is installed on Kyiv’s main square.

Earlier, it was reported that on Saturday afternoon two men tried to steal the trophy, but were apprehended by security guards.

Euro-2012 starts in Poland and Ukraine on June 8.
