TOPLESS protesters make European football’s governing body, Uefa, tremble in fear.
The activist of the infamous Ukrainian women’s rights group FEMEN, Aleksandra Shevchenko, explains why she doesn’t want Euro 2012 in her country.
“Major sporting events are often sponsored by beer companies,” Shevchenko told Gazaeta.ru “The purpose of these companies is to inebriate people. And the sex industry is always around the corner.
“In Germany, prostitution was legalised before the 2006 World Cup. It is clear that sex tourism will boom in Ukraine during the Euros. We already have some examples, as a number of clubs for men have opened near the stadium in Kyiv.”
The FEMEN leader sees absolutely no benefits in Ukraine co-hosting Euro 2012, as the event will most likely become a commercial failure.
“The point is that it’s not going to bring any money. In March, [President Viktor] Yanukovich said the tournament isn’t paying off for Ukraine,” she stressed.
Shevchenko realises that displaying bare breasts won’t lead to the cancellation of the European football championship or even closure of a men’s club, but believes the efforts of her comrades and her are not in vain.
“Of course, five bordellos won’t stop working after we’ve dumped the Euro Cup, but football fans write to us very often on Facebook,” the activist said. “They ask if they can come to Donetsk, promise not to have sex with the Ukrainian women, but only watch football.”
In May, the topless FEMEN attacked the Henri Delaunay Trophy, awarded to the European football champions, as it was on display in the Ukrainian city of Dnepropetrovsk.
“In other words, our actions make an impact,” Shevchenko continued. “UEFA are afraid of us – the stewards are specially-trained in how to remove the naughty FEMEN activists from the stadium. Recently, we went to Poland. Every policeman there had our photo and passport info. They searched for us in the crowd and really wanted to prevent our action. But again we won. Usually, when we come out on our action (no matter whether it is linked to the Euro 2012 or not), it’s a regiment of cops against us. A hundred cops against five girls, can you imagine that? And they are afraid of our naked boobs.”
According to the activist, it is men’s “patriarchal mindset” which gives the semi-naked girls the upper hand in the battle against the police.
Volodymyr Polishchuk, senior spokesman for Ukraine’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, was struck in the face and shoulders with a Kyiv-style cream-filled cake as he was speaking with a television crew. He was not injured.
Ukrainian police on Friday took three Femen members into custody hours before a Euro 2012 game in the eastern city Donetsk. Polishchuk and other official spokesmen said the detention was legal because police had received a tip that the women were planning to disrobe and run onto the pitch.
FEMEN statements say the police had received no such tips and had violated the law by detaining the activists without grounds.
“They want to control women’s sexuality, which, in their opinion, should only show itself in bed and the kitchen. And here the situation gets out of control, which makes the cops panic immediately,” she said.
As for football in general, Shevchenko doesn’t find the sport fascinating at all.
“Silly game,” she stressed. “As we say, it’s sperm chasing an egg to fertilise it.”
The goals of FEMEN are far greater that disrupting Euro 2012 as they want a global “female revolution” to happen.
And, according to Shevchenko, it’s going to be bloody, as men wouldn’t want to give up their power without a fight. – rt.com
