Ukraine’s media-savvy feminist group Femen went topless Friday in Warsaw to denounce a potential spike in prostitution during the Euro 2012 football championships.

Just ahead of kick-off, the four women suddenly appeared amid a crowd of thousands of fans and proceeded to press up against an entrance to Warsaw’s new national stadium.

The message “F*** Euro” was scrawled in large lettering across their bare breasts, followed by “2012” on their stomachs. It was repeated on their backs.

They also screamed their message non-stop at the top of their lungs and used extinguishers to spray the crowd with foam.

An army of onlookers and photographers immediately swarmed the women before police loaded them into a van.

“Politicians spent money to build stadiums but they did nothing to resolve other problems, including that of prostitution in the two countries” co-hosting the tournament, Poland and Ukraine, one of the Femen women told reporters.

“Football is only a male affair,” a 50-something woman walking by cried out in support and applauded.

Friday’s bare-chested protest was just the latest in a three-year movement that has turned the Femen ladies - numbering 300 in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv - into headline fodder the world over.

Half naked or scantily clad, the Femem women have staged protests against prostitution, sex tourism and sexual harassment of female Ukrainian university students.
