Femen Activist Says Secret Services Beat Him, Threatened Others

Viktor Svyatskiy, an activist with the Ukrainian feminist protest group Femen, was brutally beaten late on July 24, leaving him with a broken jaw and missing teeth. Svyatskiy told RFE/RL's Ukrainian Service that he recognized the assailants as secret services officers who have been watching his movements and those of his Femen associates. He said that the security forces were trying to prevent Femen from staging a protest during this week's celebration of the foundation of Christianity in Kyivan Rus.
